Thumbs up A unique Cay in Abaco

I hate to look at the site and see the word Never on the Forum page so i am going to make some comments on Man O War Cay.

I know alot of the local people that live on Man O war and have never met any one from the Cay that is not Freindly!

I enjoy going to the Cay although i don't get there very often i enjoy the visit every time i go there, It has to be one of the cleanest outer Cays in the Abaco's. The people of man O War are a perfect example of how people can get along and coexist in Harmony with each other.

If you are coming to Abaco as a visitor i highly recommend that you put them on your list for a day visit to see for your self the freindly atmosphere you will get from your visit to the Cay.They have good resturaunts and shops to go to while you are visiting the Cay and then there is the Albury boat builders were you can see first hand the Craftmanship and pride they take in building there boats.

All the Best Papanasty

I agree,it is beautiful. Man O War Cay has the tidiest and best maintained settlement that I have seen thus far in the Bahamas. The very first time I visited Man O War it reminded me of the Methodist Cottage City in my hometown of Oak Bluffs,Martha's Vineyard.

I have been lucky enough to visit Man-O-War Cay and do some work there with my father, mostly in the marina and it was a great experience. One of the things that was quite prevalent was the cleaniless of the island and a very rich history and sense of family among the locals. It seemed to be more tight knit and laid back than the other cays i've visited.

My folks live in the 6 months of winter on Dickies Cay, right across from the marina. It is a very nice natural harbor, offering storm protection from most points of the compass.

No bars are alcohol sold there, but trust me, my folks (and many visitors) just pack it in from Marsh Harbour.

It is quite quaint but the story my parents told about a Sunday morning was quite touching. They awoke to the most beautiful singing in the world. So they followed the sound to the local church, and opened the door. It got totally silent, and my folks were nervous, sitting way in the back. Then another song came around and my mother stood up and sang out some of the sweetest soprano sounds from memory (well for her age that is), to join with the congregation, and the smiles all started. I honestly don't think my folks missed a Sunday except for the hurricanes a few years ago, or were traveling.

Mother bought one or two of everything at the sail shop, and dad was so incredibly happy to get an honest Abaco dinghy - Malone, isn't that the builder's name? It's a very different place from Guana or Elbow, more staid and laid back in my opinion. For jollies, they take the Albury to Nippers or Sea Spray Marina, or one of the other local hot spots. I must confess, I don't get over there much, but promised a trip in December.

Try Man-O-War Cay and Dickies sometime. It's not rowdy but it will not disappoint. -sammie

Thumbs up Winer Malone

Sam thats my Uncle or Caralee Mothers brother, Hes not doing much these days, getting up there in age, its to bad because when he stops completely i believe that will be the last of a dieing breed. He is building the scale model of the boats he builds but i don't believe he is building the Abaco Dinghy any more but don't quote me on that.. See him when ever there is a family gathering he sure can build a beautiful boat.

Man O War is quite and every one there are very nice people, can't think of a bad thing to say about any one there always very friendly, When do your folks come and stay? Hope to meet them some day All the best Papa

I am stockpiling some Madeira logs right now for Mr. Winer as well as some Wild Tamarind. He uses them in the construction of his Model Dinghys.

I do not usually cut down such trees but could not avoid doing so as I cleared my driveway. I probably added an extra 100 feet to my driveway trying to avoid some of the larger trees.

Will be chipping again this Saturday afternoon as the brush pile is quite large. So, if anyone would like some mulch for the garden, brink your buckets and boxes. It's a good time for gardening.

I have always loved going to visit MOW I used to stop there on the way to Sandy Cay in the mornings while I was working on a project there. The "Home Run II" had a couple boys from there that used to go out with them, They are some of the finest men I know in Abaco.
