Anyone who has perused the blogosphere lately will find it rife with scrubbing of articles, websites, even whole pages of Google by the present US administration, anytime an "inconvienient " question is asked. At least the Bahamian Gov't. in this instance has put it out front. PM me if you want scrubbed evidence. I can give you links.

In the Bahamas and the USA your tax or duty $$ go to the capital for disbursal, the idea being that you feel that you have elected the guy that will best represent you and your interests. The subsidary $$ that Abaco gets from Nassau (and all the rest of The Bahamas) for BEC is part of that disbursal (and Nassuvians don't like paying your bills either)

The Bahamian govt is just trying to even the playing field--let's say I offer to buy you a car, I am thinking a midsize sedan. You say okay but I want a tricked out limo that is custom painted. We are going to have some trouble, and I may decide that if you need such a vehicle, it's your business, but I maybe forced to rescind my offer...
I think that what you have said expresses exactly the situation

I agree with you Half !! Every Bahamian should be able to voice there opinion on every issue that come along whether it be concerning our enviornment or a development it's there rite to defend or protect there interests!!!

Being a American with Permanent Residence with the rite to work does not give me the rite to express my opinions when it come to issues concerning the Bahamian Government...BUT i am married to a Bahamian..my daughter was born and raised as a Bahamian and it has only come to light recently that i feel i deserve the rite to express my opinion on issues concerning the Bahamas or better put Abaco and the sorrounding Cays because i have 20 years in to this relationship with my family and the Bahamas and have EARNED the rite to express my self on issues concerning the Bahamas!!!

For many years i have kept silent on Bahamian issues being careful not to step over that line.. Being carefull not to say the wrong thing that would be taken out of content..I truly Love this country and would do any thing for my Fellow Bahamian or the island that i live on which my past record would show that i have given my fair share to the community..

So when i run my mouth on the do's and don'ts concerning our Country, expressing my deep felt Love for this country please DON'T take my opinions out of content because it is that i CARE about my family future and our future in this great land and my opinons are only to hopefully make things better in this wonderful country!!!

Thank You all Bahamian and Guests in this country for the privlage to associate and express my opinons with all of you on all the issues concerning our Future.. I want to wish every one a Merry Christmas and the best you can make of the coming New Year...May God Bless you ALL Papa

Papa, you have earned the right, let your opinions be known.

It seems that there is an issue here of "freedom of speech" ie letting your opinions be known and actually taking legal action ie taking DLC to court....there is a big difference. And since the Gov had allready approved that project in the 'best interest of the Bahamas' they took it personally when persons objected to the point of legal action.

As was pointed out earlier on another thread the Bahamas has no Freedom of Information Act....this gives the gov the ability to slip stuff past us 'until it's too late' ...Put a little more 'sunshine' in our gov and some things like this could be avoided

ah, the proverbial snowball's chances in hell

Just a point for the sake of clarification; in EVERY civil case there is a winner and a looser, AND the winner has always had to right to sue the looser for COSTS.

This episode is not, therefore unique or peculiar to The Bahamas Government.
