Abaco consists of a group of islands or "Cays" approximately 130 miles off Florida's eastern shore (if you want to fit in, please pronounce it "Keys"). The chain of cays stretches 120 miles, with Great Abaco being the main island, dotted with the Outer Cays along it's northeast shore.

There are 4 main inhabited cays in what is referred to as the Hub of Abaco, located between Treasure Cay and Marsh Harbour, both located on main land Abaco. Green Turtle cay, the largest settlement of all the cays with almost 300 residents to the north, followed by Guana Cay, Man-O-War Cay, and Elbow Cay with it's famous light house. To the north and south you will also find other settled cays and main land settlements such as Spanish Cay, Walkers Cay made popular by TV show Walkers Cay Chronicles, Lubbers Quarters and Tilloo which are mostly private, and southern mainland settlements including Sandy Point, Hole in the Wall, Cherokee Sound, and Little Harbour, home of the Famous Pete's Pub.

Each of the settled cays has a mix of inhabitants, locals and second homeowners, and their share of pristine, mostly deserted beaches. Visiting Abaco is unlike most vacation destinations in that here visitors and locals mingle seemlessly, which makes for a very comfortable, relaxing getaway. In fact, when you leave Abaco, you may feel a little Abaconian your self!

The Sea of Abaco, long known as a preferred boating destination, runs between the mainland and the outer cays. This protected body of water has an average water depth of just 12', making it perfect for power boats, sail boats, and even rental boats piloted by novice boaters. Spread throughout the chain are numerous uninhabited cays with pristine beaches, easily accessible to even beginner boaters. If you have ever had the fantasy of getting away to your own deserted island, or getting that perfect tan, Abaco is one of the few places on earth where virtually anyone can turn this fantasy into a reality.

Another great thing about Abaco, is it's one of the safest vacation destinations one can travel to. With the population on the outer cays ranging from 100 to 300 people, this is an area wwhere everyone really knows everyone, and few people lock their doors. This is an area where you will most likely make friends while spending time here. With the cays being as small as they are, by nature there are fewer places to go such as stores, bars and restaurants, so it's common to run into the same people over and over during your trip. We're confident you'll find Abaco a place you'll want to return to again and again.
